The Education Bureau stated that kindergartens must comply with relevant circulars when charging miscellaneous fees, particularly the principle that parents' purchase of supplies or use of services is entirely voluntary.

📉 32 Kindergartens Closed Last Academic Year; 2 to Close This Academic Year
The new academic year's Profile lists a total of 930 kindergartens, about 40 fewer than last year. In response, the Education Bureau said that a total of 32 kindergartens closed last academic year, while 9 registered; 2 will close this academic year, while 1 newly registered, and another 5 are applying for registration. The authorities stressed that kindergartens are private in nature, and new kindergartens may appear every year, or close after considering factors such as profitability and rental issues.
