A roughly ten-second video has recently gone viral online, showing two suspected junior secondary boys at a boys' school in Hong Kong engaging in intimate behaviour in the school hall, including touching each other's cheeks, kissing and whispering. The school involved is rumoured to be Tak Sun Secondary School, a Direct Subsidy Scheme boys' school in Sha Tin.

💬 Netizens Divided: Respect for Diversity vs Inappropriate Setting

The incident has sparked heated discussion on online forums and social platforms, with netizens taking polarised views. Some netizens believe that same-sex couples' relationships and expression of affection are personal matters, and the public need not overreact; but many others pointed out that a campus is a public learning place that emphasises discipline, and students should consider the setting—intimate behaviour in full view of others is not appropriate.

One netizen commented: "Support, but if it's true love please don't French kiss in public—protecting yourself is also protecting your partner." Another said: "Sexual orientation isn't the problem, but you need to know that this kind of intimate behaviour shouldn't be done at school." More netizens were concerned that the students involved are still very young, worrying that the incident will cause them psychological pressure. One comment noted: "Children's love needs to be carefully protected; making it public could cause them great harm, just let it go after watching." Another reminded: "They look like very young children, we need to guide them carefully."

⚠️ Covert Filming and Sharing May Constitute Cyberbullying; Society Calls for End to Public Trial to Protect Minors

At the same time, many people are worried that filming and publishing the video without the parties' consent will cause serious online public shaming and psychological pressure on the students involved, and are calling on the public to stop sharing the clip to protect minors. Some netizens said bluntly that if the incident involved a boy and a girl, society's reaction might be completely different, but two boys in today's social environment may face even greater pressure: "It's really social death, family death, at such a young age their minds may not be able to handle it."

🏫 Education Bureau Has Contacted the School; School Provides Professional Support to Students and Families

An Education Bureau spokesman confirmed that after learning of the incident, it has sought understanding from the school concerned, and understands that the school has provided assistance and professional support to the students involved and their families, and will also provide counselling to other students. The spokesman continued that the authorities have always been committed to promoting values education, guiding students to understand and observe norms of interpersonal interaction, cultivate healthy interpersonal boundaries, and understand appropriate behaviour in different settings.
