A student uploaded multiple photos on Threads, alleging that a male teacher at a tutoring centre near Tuen Mun Ferry Pier allegedly "flew into a rage" during class and struck him on the head with a hard plastic toy axe, apparently because he was unhappy that the student had exchanged a couple of words with a classmate. The student claimed that "it really hurt a lot" and further alleged that this was not the first time the teacher had physically punished students, saying he had previously been attacked by the teacher with a wooden ruler and a clothes-drying rack. He angrily asked, "What gives them the right to hit us?"
The male teacher involved explained that tapping the student's head with the plastic axe was "just playing with him," but said the "head strike" and the "scolding" were two separate incidents that some people had conflated. He said CCTV had captured the process, and that the parent concerned did not call the police after understanding the incident. He also said the tutoring centre's owner had reviewed the CCTV footage after learning of the incident and also considered that no criminal element was involved, so there was no need to dismiss him.
In the video released by the tutoring centre concerned, "Fung Wing Education," the teacher can be seen lightly tapping the head of the boy involved with a toy axe, after which the two appear to joke and exchange banter, and the class continues. The teacher then puts down the toy axe and walks back to the podium, later saying, "If you call the police, I'll tell your mother," and the students laugh again.
The person-in-charge replied that upon learning of the incident, they immediately contacted the parent and student to communicate and handle the matter, and reached a solution agreed upon by both parties. He stressed: "Regarding the footage from this class, we admit that this teacher did indeed do something wrong and behaved inappropriately. We immediately reprimanded and disciplined the teacher concerned, and will take this as a lesson to strengthen supervision in future."
