Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) held a luncheon to celebrate its 55th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of its attainment of university title. Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki, himself an alumnus of HKSYU, said the government will vigorously promote the "Study in Hong Kong" brand to attract more students from the Mainland and overseas to pursue their studies in Hong Kong.

The anniversary luncheon was held at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel, where the university also presented long-service awards to 105 staff members who had served the institution for 10 to 41 years. In his speech at the luncheon, Hu Huai-chung said the university had admitted a total of 2,497 new students in the new academic year, including 411 master's and doctoral research students. Non-local students currently account for nearly 30% of the total student population, and the university will continue to provide diverse pathways for further studies and advancement for students at different stages.

Hu Huai-chung announced that HKSYU has obtained approval from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications to establish the "School of Communication, Information and Creative Industries" this academic year, making it the university's fourth school. It will cover the Department of Journalism and Communication as well as the recently established Department of Data Science and Digital Innovation, expanding room for the university's development in teaching and research. The university is also preparing to build a university history museum to review the contributions of its founders, Hu Hung-lap and Chung Ki-wing, as well as the institution's development journey.

Chan Kwok-ki and Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin attended the event to present the long-service awards. Chan Kwok-ki said HKSYU has come a long way over more than half a century, from Shue Yan College to becoming the first private university, and to entering the QS university rankings for the first time this year — achievements that are truly encouraging.
