Assistant Vice-Principal of Secondary School Sparks Controversy Over "Black Underwear" Remarks
At Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School in Sheung Shui, an assistant vice-principal was accused of making inappropriate and sexually harassing remarks to students during a talk on the first day of school. The school met with all female students on Monday and apologised to the affected students. It is understood that the school's investigation found that the wording used by the teacher concerned that day was not "seduce" as circulated online, but the remarks were still inappropriate.
It was circulated online that an assistant vice-principal of the secondary school concerned told female students present at a talk in the hall on the first day of school, "Are you wearing black underwear because you want to seduce your male classmates and male teachers?" This subsequently sparked discussion among students. The teacher concerned explained to students again on Monday, saying that the remarks that day were intended to protect students' safety and remind them that wearing dark-coloured underwear was not appropriate.
It is understood that the school has launched an investigation into the incident, gathering information from multiple teachers and students who attended that day, and found that the wording used by the teacher concerned that day was "attract" rather than "seduce" as circulated online. However, considering the occasion and the teacher-student relationship, it was initially considered that the remarks were inappropriate. A report will be submitted to the authorities after the school-based follow-up is completed.
The Education Bureau confirmed that it has received the school's notification regarding the incident and understands that the school is handling it in accordance with the school-based mechanism. The Bureau will continue to maintain close contact with the school and provide appropriate support and advice.
