Description

Through careful observation, Montessori guides are able to grasp the moment each child enters various sensitive periods of development, and provide learning materials that meet their interests. Ultimately every child will, while being prepared for their own individual development, experience explosive growth across different areas of academic learning. Guidepost Montessori has a supportive yet comprehensive environment; children choose their own work autonomously, working independently or collaborating with a partner/group, learning to set goals, challenge themselves, and solve complex problems. Every child practises leadership and responsibility; when interacting with younger children they take on the role of mentor, while also learning to look around the school environment, participate meaningfully, and resolve issues that arise in the classroom. We make full use of the Montessori 3-hour work cycle, during which children can choose and organise their own work. Children learn to create, understand, organise and repeat their learning goals — working in both independent and collaborative ways — persisting in resolving difficult thinking and creative work.
