An 11-year-old girl uploaded a video online seeking help, suspected of being scolded by family members. Social workers and police intervened to investigate and found the girl's hands and feet red and swollen, arresting two women—understood to be the girl's grandmother and domestic helper.

📹 Video Circulates Online: Girl Knocks on Door for Help
In a video circulating online, a girl can be seen asking netizens for help, with sounds of knocking on a door during the video. Another clip shows a man shouting angrily and slamming the table. Police received a referral from the Social Welfare Department on Thursday that an 11-year-old girl was suspected of being inappropriately treated by family members, and launched an investigation. It is understood that the girl is cared for by her maternal grandmother and grandfather, and the man in the video is the grandfather. Preliminary investigation believed the behaviour in the video did not involve child abuse, but found the girl's hands and feet red and swollen, suspecting she had been beaten recently. Police arrested the girl's 61-year-old maternal grandmother and a 43-year-old domestic helper in Wong Tai Sin District on suspicion of ill-treatment or neglect of a child or young person under their care, and both are being detained for investigation.

🏫 School Issues Statement: Handled and Followed Up According to Mechanism
The girl's school issued a statement saying it attaches great importance to the incident. The school had learned of the situation earlier and will handle and follow up as soon as possible in accordance with established mechanisms and regulations.

💬 Kuan Ho-ming: Reflects Increased Public Awareness of Child Abuse
A lawmaker noted that this incident reflects increased public awareness of child abuse issues, which helps enable early intervention. Kuan Ho-ming, Chairman of the Legislative Council Panel on Welfare Services, said: "The Social Welfare Department may not have enough manpower to conduct online patrols in this way; it must rely on the public to help together. When neighbours hear sounds, could they help and stop or advise on the matter? Even security guards seeing it—many people will, after all, be in the community where they come and go. If parents are always like this, there is actually a chance for people nearby to notice."

📋 Social Welfare Department: Following Up on the Case, Arranging Medical Assessment for the Child
In response to enquiries, the Social Welfare Department said its social workers are following up on the case and have contacted the family involved. A multi-disciplinary case conference will be convened, and arrangements will be made for the child to undergo a medical assessment to ensure she receives appropriate care.
